• February 2013

Time is moving on. February already. What's been happening? Besides freezing and getting used to slushy mud, we've had our ewes scanned and find they are all pregnant. The ram, Boris, was only with them for 14 days so he did good.

I'm still working on the television pilot which is part of the writing course I am currently on. It's been hard. Really hard. I'm good at ideas but working out the story, how it all links together, the causes and the effects of those actions and how they affect each character. That I find difficult. It's like there is a brick wall where my ideas stop once I've got the characters. I know the characters, I like them, want to work with them but can't get past the initial hurdle, past the first idea and on to the rest of the story. So there's been lots of soul searching, waking up in the middle of the night and then trying to remember that good idea, which is always an even btter idea just because it has been formed in the middle of the night. I have tried the notebook at the side of the bed thing. I usually fall back into sleep before I do it. I've also tried repeating it to myself over and over again so I won't forget that nugget, but, you know what? By the time morning comes that idea doesn't seem so good after all. I think, for me anyway, ideas in the middle of the night are tinted with rose coloured glasses because of coming from that dream state.

What I have found is doing something else, walking, gardening, gives my mind time to sort things out and come up with good ideas. So, the garden should look good this year!

Hopefully the writing will benefit too.
